PhotoAlley.com
My step-father (Dean), purchased a Canon 35mm camera from PhotoAlley.com using his credit card. He placed the order by phone, not the computer. After about 1 week, the camera arrived – but from a different business than where he ordered the camera from. PhotoAlley.com claims that they do not charge for shipping or taxes if the order is more than $100.00 dollars, and Dean was given a breakdown pricing when he made his purchase with PhotoAlley.com. The prices were as follows; $229.98 for the camera & Lens, and $12.00 for 2 lithium batteries – for a total price of $241.98  (NO SHIPPING CHARGES WERE APPLIED). Now the order came from a place which none of us had ever heard of  before, “Taaffee Photo”. The invoice had the camera price as $229.98, two lithium batteries $12.00, and shipping $20.00 (YES, they charged shipping on an order that was not supposed to have any shipping charges). It was damn-near impossible to even find Taaffee Photo on the internet because it is spelled differently. It’s actually Taafe  Photo & Electronics and they do not even have a 1-800 number, so I know we didn’t place an order with them, nor do they even have any 35mm SLR cameras for sale if you go to their website.  Seems funny to me that a business would send out an invoice with their name spelled wrong, especially when it’s not even got their whole business name on it. On December 21, 2005 the people at PhotoAlley.com claim they have never taken our order for any merchandise, nor do they have any records for Dean Carnes. I called them twice to check on this myself and was told by two different people at PhotoAlley.com that we did not purchase the camera from them! But on Friday December 16, 2005 when I called them to make a correction to the order for Dean, they had all of our information – name, address, and order information on the Canon camera & Lens. How is it that a business can have all of your order information, credit card number, address, and name – but 4 days later, claim to not have ever heard of you, have the nerve to you a liar, and tell you that you did not purchase anything from them. It’s not possible! I personally think that the invoice that say’s Taaffee Photo was printed on a computer at PhotoAlley.com, because there’s no other way our information which was given over the phone to PhotoAlley.com could have gotten onto the Taaffee Photo invoice. I guess it’s a really good thing that they sent the correct camera & Lens to us, because there is no way we could have made an exchange from someone who never sold us the camera in the first place. All we are really out is the $20.00 for shipping – no big deal, it’s the fact that they are going to such lengths to cheat us out of the shipping. I would never purchase anything from PhotoAlley.com again, nor would I recommend this business to anyone else. If they will lie and cheat you out of shipping, they are capable of doing much worse.
